Builder Level 2
FORCE
In Level 1 you learned to sense the world. Now your gadgets act on it — a transistor lets a small sensor switch a big motor, and your builds start to move.

Unit 1Make it Move
The Two-Second Motor
Walk past a row of shop windows and notice which one catches your eye. It is often the one where something moves. A sign that turns by itself works all day and never gets tired.
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
The Auto-Fan
Somewhere near you someone works in a room that gets hotter as the day goes on: a kitchen, a workshop, a small office with one window. The fan is either off when it should be on, or on all day, wasting power.
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
The Electromagnet Crane
Spill a box of pins, screws or paper clips on the floor and try to pick them all up. Some people do this every day at work: in a tailor’s shop, a repair bench, a factory line.
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
Unit 2Diagnose
Revive the Machine
A machine that should react does nothing. The person who relies on it is waiting, and nobody is going to build a new one. Somewhere in it there is one break.
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
Unit 3Sense & Decide
The Automatic Light
On many shared stairs, paths and gates, someone has to remember to switch the light on at dusk and off in the morning. Some nights they forget, and people walk up in the dark.
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
Two Senses, One Machine
Many bedrooms are hottest at night, when people are trying to sleep. A fan left on all day wastes power; a fan switched off at night leaves someone awake and sweating.
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
Unit 4Invent
The Machine You Arm
A fan that switches itself on is useful, until it starts while someone’s hand is near it, or while someone is cleaning it. Real machines wait until a person says they may act.
Flagship
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
Invent Your Machine
Look around your home or school for a job someone does by hand, again and again, that a machine could do: opening, lifting, turning, stirring, fanning, feeding.
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
The Winch
In many places water is still lifted from a well by rope, and loads are hauled up stairs by hand. It is slow, heavy work, and the people who do it every day know exactly how heavy.
F
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
Unit 5Builds of the Week
The Timed Fan
After a hot shower, a bathroom mirror stays fogged and the walls stay damp. An extractor fan should run for a while after you leave, then stop by itself.
Build of the Week
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
The Push-Button Motor
A kitchen mixer has a pulse button: hold it and it runs, let go and it stops. It sounds simple, until a small child finds it.
Build of the Week
Needs the Level 2 kit. Get itBase Kit + Pack A: DC motor, fan, relay, electromagnet coil, motor driver, flyback diode, push button. Board and Level 1 sensors carry over.
The Rebuild Challenge
You are the field engineer. A customer’s machine has stopped, and they need it back today. You can’t rebuild it: you must find the fault where it stands.
